By Mari Mariel

This piece represents the duality of “Life and Death” always present to maintain balance, as well as the restoration of balance through death and rebirth. The Xoloitzcuintle, Mexican hairless dog, was believed to accompany its owners on the path through the Mictlan, the eternal rest or the underworld of Aztec mythology. The moths have great symbolism in Mexican culture known to represent a loss.
